Returns

Bluepoint was supposed to do a remake… not a reimaging… they took far too many creative liberties, and also forced in their leftist politics. Games with all white casts apparently aren’t allowed in 2023. Forced in women, too.. because ya know… diversitah… Game also ditched Male/Female genders, and degrades us instead, by using Type A and Type B…. SICK OF THAT.
They arrogantly completely replaced all the musical scores with their own, awful scores, they mucked up the lore a bit by completely reimagining boss/enemy character models and the environments.
That aside… the game looks absolutely gorgeous, and the gameplay is smooth and fun. You really feel the impact of the heavier weapons too. Strongly recommend immersive vibration turned on.
If you can look past the annoyance of FORCED diversity and race swaps, and other political crap, and only give af about gameplay, then the game is strongly recommended. It is however, a challenging game. If you hate challenging yourself, stay away. If you love a good and fair challenge, then the game is pretty much a must-buy for you. I gave the game 3-stars, but the game is by no means bad when it comes to performance, load times, gameplay, and graphics. Those are rock solid.

Solid remaster. I have to say I did not own a ps3 when this game was released but I’ve been a soul’s fan from the moment I played Dark souls 1 on the Xbox 360. Demon souls really ties everything together in the souls serious. I can tell where the inspirations came from and the improvements that came in the Dark souls trilogy.

A solid Souls experience (indeed, the first) with an absolutely gorgeous new set of paint (perhaps *still* the best-looking console game of this generation) and some appreciated quality of life improvements over the original. That being said the gameplay definitely shows that this was a new formula they were trying to figure out, and there are some annoyances as a result. The game can be obtuse even from a veteran Souls’ player perspective, esp when it comes to upgrade paths and material farming. There are no checkpoints (bonfires/sites of grace in later games) so aside from the few levels where you can unlock a shortcut or two, death will result in a full runback of the entire level. This is ameliorated somewhat by the fact that these are by far the easiest bosses in all of Souls-dom, where their art and lore design far exceed the quality of the actual fights. Overall, it still ended up being about a 30 hour experience from start to finish the first time through, and it was enjoyable, if not as transcendent as something like Bloodborne or Elden Ring. Probably worth it just to show of your PS5’s graphical capability alone.
